Welcome to Day 1 of 31 Days of Small Joys!
Today is about learning to notice. Not to create joys, not to earn them, not to wait for the perfect moment—just to notice the ones that are already here, woven through your everyday life.
Small joys are everywhere. In this moment. In the next one. They’re hiding in plain sight, waiting for you to pause long enough to see them.
Today, we begin that practice.
Today’s Small Joys Checklist
☐ Notice your first sip of something warm Tea, coffee, hot chocolate—whatever you drink in the morning. Really taste it. Feel the warmth in your hands. This is a small joy.
☐ Find something beautiful to look at A flower. A cloud. The way light falls through a window. Anything that catches your eye and makes you pause. Just look at it for a moment.
☐ Listen to a sound you love Birds singing. Rain. A favorite song. Wind in the trees. Close your eyes and really listen. This is joy.
☐ Notice something soft Velvet. Cotton. A pet’s fur. Silk. Feel it against your skin. Let yourself appreciate the simple pleasure of texture.
☐ Take one conscious breath Stop what you’re doing. Breathe in slowly. Breathe out slowly. Feel your body. This quiet moment is a small joy.
☐ Taste something that makes you smile Your favorite snack. A ripe piece of fruit. A bite of something sweet. Let yourself fully enjoy it without guilt.
☐ Notice a moment of stillness The pause between thoughts. A quiet room. The calm before the busy part of your day. Just notice it. It’s there.
☐ See something that makes you laugh A funny moment. A silly pet. Something absurd. Let yourself fully laugh. Feel the lightness in your chest.
☐ Feel the ground beneath your feet Whether you’re wearing shoes or barefoot, notice the solid earth supporting you. Stability is a small joy.
☐ Observe something natural growing A plant. A tree. A flower pushing through soil. Watch it for a moment. Life is happening all around you.
☐ Notice a moment when you felt capable Something you did well, no matter how small. Making breakfast. Finishing a task. Being kind. You did something. Notice it.
☐ Find a color that brings you joy Look around. What color makes you feel something? Watch it. Let it touch something in you.
☐ Notice a moment of comfort Sitting down after standing. A cool sheet on warm skin. Being warm under a blanket. Finding comfort. This is joy.
☐ Observe one small act of kindness Someone holding a door. A greeting. A gesture. Maybe even your own kindness. Notice it and feel the warmth of it.
☐ Take in a moment of peace Whenever you find it. Whether it’s five seconds or five minutes. Just peace. Stillness. Quiet. It’s enough.
The Practice for Today
Today isn’t about doing big things. It’s about pausing. It’s about looking around at the life that’s already happening and saying, “Oh. There. That’s a small joy.”
You don’t have to check every box. You don’t have to “do” anything except notice.
The magic is in the noticing.
Tonight’s Reflection
As you go to bed tonight, ask yourself: “What was one moment today that I’m grateful I noticed?”
It might be something tiny. Something so small you almost missed it. That’s okay. That’s the whole point.
You noticed. You found a small joy. You’re already doing this right.
Tomorrow, we’ll go deeper.
Today? Today, we just look around and smile at all the beauty that’s already here.
You’ve got this. 💕✨
